Initiatives for Reconstruction Support in the Heavy Rain Disaster of July 2020

We would like to express our deepest condolences to all those affected by the heavy rain in July 2020. We sincerely pray for the safety of everyone and the earliest possible recovery of the affected areas.
UPWARD, Inc. (Location: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Takanori Kaneki, URL: https://upward.jp), whose mission is to "make mobile workers smarter," is implementing recovery support activities for those affected by the heavy rain in July 2020.

Regarding Activity Support Through Free License Provision

In response to the heavy rain in July 2020, we partnered with System Forest Co., Ltd. to provide UPWARD licenses free of charge to Hitoyoshi City in Kumamoto Prefecture, Kuma Village in Kumamoto Prefecture, and Sagara Village in Kumamoto Prefecture.

During the Kumamoto Earthquake that occurred in April 2016, we also supported on-site surveys and the issuance of disaster certificates in Nishihara Village, Kumamoto Prefecture, which suffered tremendous damage, by utilizing UPWARD and Salesforce.

As in the case of the Kumamoto Earthquake, UPWARD was used as a tool to cross-reference household information registered in the CRM with data on surveyed properties on a map. Even when personnel conducting on-site surveys did not have detailed maps, they were able to confirm the accurate location of properties using the map, contributing to the smooth implementation of survey operations.

In addition, when issuing disaster certificates, we had those affected confirm their location information on a map. As a result, we were able to issue disaster certificates quickly. As of 40 days after the disaster, Sagara Village in Kumamoto Prefecture had achieved a 100% issuance rate for disaster certificates, while Hitoyoshi City and Kuma Village were around 60% (according to a Kumamoto Nichinichi Shimbun survey).

"Because this time it was a flood disaster, the damage to homes due to inundation was severe, and there was a need to conduct on-site surveys and issue disaster certificates more quickly for early reconstruction."
With communication infrastructure unstable due to the collapse of buildings and bridges, staff who rushed to provide support from other local governments were assigned to conduct on-site surveys and handle various disaster certificate application counters set up at various locations.

By using UPWARD, even staff without detailed maps were able to conduct surveys smoothly, and by confirming the location of residences on the map with those who came to apply, we were able to have smooth communication. It worked quickly even with mobile Wi-Fi, and I was reminded of the effectiveness of cloud services in such situations."

UPWARD will continue to utilize location information and strive to be a mobile-friendly CRM tool that everyone can rely on.
