UPWARD, Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & CEO: Ryusuke Kaneki; hereinafter, UPWARD) is pleased to announce that it has developed "Elastic Geofence AI," a proprietary technology that further improves the accuracy of dwell time detection in outside sales, and has filed a patent application for this technology.

This technology, to be implemented in the sales support mobile application "UPWARD", utilizes AI to learn the geographic space information around the destination and the location information of the sales representative's activities, thereby optimizing dwell time detection for each individual and providing a more comfortable UX (user experience).
UPWARD has previously provided technology that automatically records dwell time by setting geofences (virtual geographic boundaries) around visit destinations and detecting entry and exit. This technology allows sales representatives to easily create activity reports from their mobile devices based on automatically detected location information, without having to search for customers. By deploying geofences only when movement is detected and activating the app only when dwell time is determined, the system minimizes battery consumption and data usage on the device, enabling both ease of use in the field and reduced burden on the device.
However, with conventional technology where the center and radius of the geofence are fixed, manual adjustments were necessary depending on the actual site area, density, and visit patterns.
"Elastic Geofence AI" was newly developed to eliminate such subtle detection discrepancies and redundancies, and to further improve the UX.

This technology uses AI to learn the location information history of user activity and geographic space information, and optimizes the center and size of geofences for each user. Its main feature is the ability to dynamically optimize the detection range, aptly named "Elastic," in response to sales styles and the visit patterns of representatives.
This ensures that activity information such as "when, where, and for how long" someone stayed is automatically recorded more accurately and in line with the actual situation. This system minimizes the data input burden on field staff when creating daily reports, while accumulating daily customer touchpoints as "actionable data."

The patented technology applied for this time is expected to dramatically improve the accuracy of dwell time detection on the XY axis in geographic space. By combining geographic space information and AI, we aim to achieve the world's highest level of dwell time detection accuracy.
Going forward, we will also actively invest in indoor positioning technology that can grasp even the differences in floors and rooms within buildings, aiming for further improvements in accuracy. Through these efforts, we aim to realize the AI Agentization of field sales activities.
